It is with sad hearts that
the family of Maj. Ret’d Lawrence (Lorne) Mitton announce
his passing on Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers
Regional Hospital, Fredericton,
NB.
Born in Dorchester, NB on
November 6, 1947, he was a son of the late Ray and Hazel (Bembridge)
Mitton.
Lorne joined the Canadian
Armed Forces on March 4th, 1968 and proudly
served in the Regular Force and Reserves until July of 1999. Following
his retirement from military service, he worked with the UN in Kosovo
until 2008 and later joined the Canadian Corps of Commissionaires
retiring on February 28,
2013.
Lorne was affiliated with
The United Church of Canada and was a member of the Masonic
Lodge.
On December 28, 1968, Lorne
married the absolute love of his life, the former Lynn Tracy and they
would have celebrated their 50th Wedding
Anniversary this coming December. Their three children, Karen Mitton
of Fredericton, Stephen Mitton of Ottawa, and Heidi Mitton will
forever cherish the memory of their dad who left a legacy of love and
devotion. A very precious part of Lorne’s life was dedicated
to his two grandsons, Justin McLeod of Cold Lake, AB and Connor McLeod
of Ottawa, ON. He also leaves behind siblings, Ken (Ruth), Daryl
(Ann), Gary, Roland, and a sister Angie as well as a number of nieces
and nephews.
Aside from his parents,
Lorne was predeceased by a niece Kenda
(Mitton).
Lorne never wanted any fuss
made over him, so at his request, there will be no service or
visitation. Burial will take place later. For those who wish to
remember Lorne by way of a memorial contribution, the family would
appreciate donations being made to the NB heart and Stroke Foundation
or the Diabetes Association.
Nos plus sincères sympathies à la famille et aux amis de Maj Ret’d Lawrence Lorne Mitton 19472018.source
