Mae Elizabeth Brenton

Mae Elizabeth Brenton, age 79 of Dartmouth, passed away suddenly at Dartmouth General Hospital on August 8, 2018. Born in East Petpeswick, Nova Scotia, she was the daughter of the late Simon J. McKay and Ethel Annie Paul McKay. She was predeceased by her four sisters, Marcella Newcombe, Evelyn Harris, Margaret Baker, and Viola Jennings, two brothers, Stephen and Percy McKay. She was also predeceased by her daughter Dana Lori and granddaughter Candace, and husband Cecil Brenton.
She is survived by her companion (common law husband) Harry Brenton. Three daughters, Frances Mugford – Glace Bay; Corina Dib – Lebanon; and Kathy Blackmore – Calgary. Two sons, Orlando “Buddy” McKay – Middleton and Edward Ballard – Lake Echo. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She will be sadly missed by good friends “The Twins”, Jane and Judy Williams of South Hampton, who she loved and cared for dearly.
At an early age Mae got her first job with Moirs Chocolate Factory in Halifax and worked there for 21 years. She also worked at Northwood Manor and Victoria General Hospital. She joined the Army Navy Airforce veterans club of Canada, where she became a lifetime member. She was second vice chairwoman and Sgt. at arms for the parent branch. She was also a member of the ladies auxiliary, as secretary treasurer, first vice president and president. She also served as barmaid for several years. She enjoyed bowling, shuffleboard and darts and served on the sports committee. During her lifetime she met and knew a lot of people in all walks of life.
