It is with deep sadness that we, the family of Annie May MacDonald, announce her passing on Wednesday, July 12, 2018 at home with her loving family at her side.
Born on April 27, 1929 in Grand Mira South, Annie was the youngest daughter of the late Archie Lauchie and Mary Louise Gillis.
Mother was a teacher in various counties of Cape Breton and CBRM schools for 34 years, retiring in 1986. She was active at Holy Redeemer Parish as Eucharistic Minister for many years and adopted a boy from Zimbabwe through the Christian Children’s Fund.
She will be remembered by her friends for being caring, loving and helping those in need.
Annie is survived by her two daughters, Amy MacDonald and Gina (Blair) Dixon as well as her large extended family.
Besides her parents, Annie was predeceased by her husband, Roderick MacDonald and siblings, Catherine (Archie), Agnes (Angus), John Joe (Annie), Lauchie Michael, Lauchie Cyprian (Jeanette), John Edward, Janie (Rannie), Dan J. and Rita (John R.).
Visitation for the late Annie May MacDonald will be held at the Pier Community Funeral Home, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church Street) on Sunday, July 15, 2018 from 2-4 pm.
Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Monday, July 16, 2018 at 10 a.m. at Holy Redeemer Church with Fr. Paul Murphy officiating and concelebrated by her nephew, Fr. Norman MacPhee. Committal will be held at the Pier Community Funeral Home with light refreshments to follow in the reception area.
Special thanks to Dr. John Archibald, Palliative Care, VON, Home Care and the many relatives and friends who were by our side and for the care given to mother during her time of need.
Donations in memory of the late Annie May MacDonald may be made to the Holy Redeemer Building Fund.
