Lyman Major Allen 19272018

Lyman Major Allen
1927-2018
It is with great sadness that we
announce the passing of Lyman Major
Allen, 91, of Moncton and formerly of Baie Verte, NB,
on Sunday, November 11, 2018, at the Moncton Hospital. Born
September 22, 1927, Lyman was a son of the late Wilson and Mayme
(Oulton) Allen.
Lyman was employed at Taylor Ford for
many years until his retirement. He enjoyed the great
outdoors, family, and most of all, he loved music. He spent
his life bringing smiles and songs to other people’s lives and hearts
up until the Lord called him home. His musical life’s
journey began as a young boy with his family in Baie Verte,
NB. When he arrived in Moncton to work, he joined up with
Ken Smith, who he played music with for many years. Since
that fateful meeting, his life was marked by countless events and
partnerships with his beloved lifelong musical friends. Some
of his other collaborations were the « Dixieland Ramblers »
with Charlie Monroe (his 1st CD at 79 years old), the « Sus
Ave. Fiddlers » with Ivan and Vivian Hicks and friends, Thursday
evening fiddlers group with Ernest Depres and the United Way annual
duck race fundraiser. He spent many years entertaining on
the Salem-Hillsborough Railroad dining car as well as at several
different parades.
He brought joy to those who were
suffering by volunteering his talents on 5200 at the Moncton Hospital,
for over 20 years. He also volunteered for many different
nursing homes in the Greater Moncton area. He has played
events at open air parks throughout Greater Moncton.
A special thank you to his dear friend
Harley Stackhouse for his genuine kindness over the past few years by
bringing him up to volunteer on 5200 up until his 91st
birthday. That group was known as « Lyman and the
Boys ». We know he will be missed on 5200 and by his
newest friends at his last residence at the golden Years
Estate.
The master’s hand is now still but his
song lives on in the hearts of those lives he touched over the
years.
He is survived by his devoted partner of
forty years, Gloria Donovan, Moncton; his son David (Pam), Moncton;
his daughter, Donna Barter, Moncton; five grandchildren, Misty,
Kaleyna, Sarah, Michael and Kurtis; seven great grandchildren; brother
Garnet (Eileen), Moncton, as well as many beloved nieces and
nephews.
Besides his parents he was predeceased
by a brother Ronald and sisters Hazel Booth and Pauline
Cusack.
Arrangements are under the care and
guidance of Jones Funeral Home.
Honouring Lyman’s wishes, cremation has taken place.
Visitation will be held from their Port Elgin location, 3 West Main
Street (506-538-2241) on Sunday, November 18, 2018 from 1 pm until the
time of the funeral service at 3 pm. Interment to follow in the
Fernwood Cemetery. Pastor Frank Trail presiding.
