With heavy hearts we announce Joan’s peaceful passing at Chemainus Health Care Center January 22, 2018.
Predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Arthur, daughter Nancy, and infant son George, she lives on in the hearts of daughters Patricia Rafuse (Glenn), Beth (Dan Whitelaw), Sharmeen Lovett Riley (Allan Riley), grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family.
Born August 19, 1928, Joan grew up in New Westminster BC, and after graduation obtained her Teaching Certificate at Normal School in Victoria. She met Art in Lake Cowichan, and they married in 1952. In 1968, they relocated the family to Chemainus. At the age of 50, she returned to University in Victoria to further her education. This enabled her to continue in the position of Teacher Librarian for Elementary Schools in the Chemainus District. She relayed her love of books and reading to many children over the next 10 years.
Mom’s life reflected her faith, her dedication, grace, and generosity of spirit. She loved people for who they were, and in her own quiet and gentle way was always there for others.
Her greatest joy was being blessed by the love family…spending time together with all of them.
Many thanks to the Staff at Dovehill House, Cowichan Home Support, CDH 2West, and CHCC for their compassionate care of Mom in the last 3 years. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Chemainus Hospital Foundation.
A small family service will be held at a later date.
Nos plus sincères sympathies à la famille et aux amis de Lovett Muriel Joan August 19 1928
