Mrs. Louise Doerksen
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of a beautiful soul, Mrs. Louise Doerksen (nee Griggs). She passed away peacefully in her home in St. Vital on April 3, 2018.
She leaves to mourn her loving family: husband, Tony Doerksen, children, Stan Doerksen (Carol), Ruth Bonneville, and joins her oldest daughter, Charlotte Coyston, in heaven who predeceased her in 1992. Also,
her four grandchildren, Charity Van Tine (Bart), Sarah Coyston of (B.C.), Celine Cramer (Graydon), Justin
Bonneville, great granddaughter, Penelope Rose McCaffrey, brothers, Dr. Gordon Griggs (Betty), Earl Griggs, sister, Eileen Raisbeck (Keith) and late brother Bill. Louise also leaves behind many relatives, friends,
and her Springs Church family.
Louise was born on May 27, 1936, in Brandon, Manitoba and grew up in the town of Griswold. She later worked as a bank teller in Brandon before leaving to study at Bethel Bible Institute in Saskatoon. Her husband, Tony, of almost 60 years, spotted her on the train on their way to college before they officially met later on campus. They were married in 1959 and together served in the pastoral ministry in rural Manitoba before finally settling in Winnipeg to raise their children.
Later in life she assisted her husband in producing television programs on CKY and in 1992 she was appointed Deaconess by Word of Faith Productions to produce spiritual messages that appeared regularly on
CKY. In 2002 she compiled these inspirational messages of faith into a book she titled Gems of Meditations which have also been published online.
Louise was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother with a beautiful soul and caring heart who encouraged
everyone wholeheartedly and loved to share her faith. Her love for children led her to serve as a Sunday School teacher for many years which, brought her great joy. Louise’s demeanour could best be described as bubbly and full of life and her character defined by how she spent time with others. Her spirit could light up a room and her laugh could be heard from miles away. She was always ready for a cup of tea, dinner out with family, or a spontaneous ride in the country. If she wasn’t home you could usually find her at her favourite cafe at the end of her street, Jolly Mug, where staff knew her by name. She looked forward to yearly trips with her family down to Manhattan Beach Camp where she gave her life to the lord as a teenager.
In her 70s she was diagnosed with congestive heart failure which slowed her down but didn’t stop her love for life and people. In 2016 she underwent major heart surgery at the age of 80 and to the surprise of everyone she recovered quickly.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Pozeg and his staff on the fourth floor of Asper Institute for the incredible care
she received while in their care and we will be forever blessed with almost two more years of her loving
presence. Her ever-hopeful perspective often served as a source of inspiration to others. As the matriarch and anchor of her family she persevered through many challenges with unwavering faith, leaving behind an
everlasting legacy for her family.
The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, April 13th, 2018, 11:00 a.m. at Springs Church, 725 Lagimodiere
Blvd. (open viewing at 10:30 a.m). Reception to follow the service at the church with internment at St. Vital Cemetery, 236 River Rd. following.
