GULYBAN, Louis- It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Louis Gulyban at the Woolcott Wing of the Welland Hospital on November 12, 2018 at the age of 85. Beloved husband of Mary for 62 years and wonderful father to Marika (Brian) and Valerie. Louis is survived by several nieces and nephews in Canada and Hungary. He is pre-deceased by his parents Ferenc and Rozalia as well as three brothers in Hungary and two in Canada. Born in Rakaca, Hungary in 1933, Louis arrived in Canada in 1957 and made his home in the Niagara Region where he has always lived. Louis was very proud to be a Canadian. He studied to become a machinist and worked at Girotti Machine Works in St. Catharines until his retirement at age 65. Louis was also a long time member of St. Kevin’s Church. During his younger years, he enjoyed attending social functions at the Hungarian Hall. He also loved to drive and made many trips to Myrtle Beach over the years to enjoy a bit of sunshine in the winter. Louis was very meticulous when it came to his tools and yard – all of which he took great pride in. He also enjoyed travelling and his life at home, especially watching all of the local wildlife. Louis was a very kind man and a good friend to many. He will be sadly missed by his loving family. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, November 15, 2018 at 10 o’clock in the Parish Community of St. Kevin (303 Niagara St, Welland). Please proceed directly to the church. Rite of Committal will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. In memory of Louis, donations to St. Kevin’s Church or St. John the Baptist Hungarian Greek Catholic Church would be appreciated. As a memorial tribute, a tree will be planted through The Niagara Woodlands Restoration Program.
