In sadness we announce that our dear Dad, Grandpa, Great Grandpa, Great Great Grandpa, Uncle and friend passed away on June 14, with his family at his side. At the same time we are happy that he is no longer in pain and is reunited with our Mom.
Loren was born at home in Scollard, AB on March 20, 1930, 6th child of Samuel and Florence Watts. Weighing just a little over 2 lbs, he spent the first weeks of his life in a shoe box on the door of the wood stove. He was raised on the farm and attended school in Scollard. From an early age, Loren developed a habit of “Never Being Late”. If he wasn’t going to be on time, then he didn’t go at all. Everyone knew if Loren was picking you up, you better be ready 15 minutes early!
On June 7, 1950, he married Edith Lowe. They worked side by side on the farm raising their four children. Besides working long and hard in the fields and with the cattle, he enjoyed playing ball in the summer and curling in the winter.
Mom & Dad semi-retired in 1976, built a new home and moved into the Village of Big Valley. Dad still went to the farm most days to make sure the boys were doing things right. They bought a small holiday trailer and spent lots of time camping at Buffalo Lake.
In 1993 they moved to Rochon Sands where they spent their summers surrounded by grandchildren. They spent many hours fishing, playing cards and telling stories around the campfire. Winters were spent enjoying the Arizona sunshine. Over the 31 years Mom & Dad went south, they made many great friends and honed their golf skills. Dad got a few ‘Holes in One’ but no one in the family has more than our Mom did.
Dad and Mom were lucky to take many wonderful trips in their 61 years together. They travelled to Eastern Canada, Mexico, Alaska, Hawaii and many other US states always coming home with many great pictures and stories. Many of these trips shared with family or friends.
In 2005, they moved to Spruce Terrace Condo in Stettler. After Mom’s passing in 2011, Dad moved to Willow Creek in the spring of 2012 where he lived until February, 2018 when he entered the Stettler hospital. He received great care at the hospital, but sure did miss the meals from Willow Creek. To the end, Dad loved his food – especially desserts!! Over the years, countless hours were spent playing crib and chickenfoot with family and friends. Dad never fussed about winning or losing, he just enjoyed playing.
Dad is survived by son Lyle (Lorna); daughters Carol (Doug) Bryson, Marie (Rusty) McLean and Kathy (Harvey) Jochelman; 9 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandson; along with S-I-L Joyce Primrose, Marjorie (Orville) Olsen, numerous nieces, nephews and many dear friends.
Dad was predeceased by his dear wife Edith; parents; brothers Alvin, Russell and Hughie; sisters Nellie and Dorothy and many friends.
At Loren’s request there will be no formal service. Private family interment at Lake View Cemetery.
On behalf of the Watts family, we wish to express our heartfelt thanks for the caring staff at Willow Creek, Home Care, and Acute Care at Stettler hospital.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Stettler Handibus, Stettler Health Services Foundation or a charity of your choice.
Nos plus sincères sympathies à la famille et aux amis de Loren Clark Watts 2018.source
