Obituary of Lois Bergum
In Memoriam
Lois Bergum (nee Davignon)
Lois Della Bergum was born March 1, 1921, in Wainwright, Alberta to Ernest and Sarah Davignon. She and her 5 siblings lived in Wainwright until she left home in 1941 to attend community college. After graduating from college she was assigned to a bank in Sedgewick, Alberta. Her initial response was “where the heck is Sedgewick?” She did however take the assignment and as luck would have it a handsome flying officer from the area came in to open an account. He took one look at her and as he liked to tell it “he kinda liked her looks and style”. His name was Nelson Bergum and little did Lois realize how that assignment at that particular bank would change the course of her life – a marriage that lasted over 73 years 5 children, 9 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren, and a multitude of friendships with the people in Sedgewick and area.
After their marriage in 1943 and several postings across Canada with the air force they settled down to raise a family on their farm south of town. They lived there until they moved to Edmonton in the early sixties. Lois worked at Woodwards for the 10 years they lived in Edmonton but along with son Delmore and their 2 youngest children, they moved back to Sedgewick and purchased the Pioneer Hotel. After selling the hotel, Lois returned to work at ATB Financial in Killam until she retired some years later.
Lois and Nelson spent their last few years together at the Killam Health Care Center but with the passing of Nelson, Lois lost her one true love. She is survived by her loving daughters, Carol Ann Bergum (Neal McHardy), Sandra Robinson, Brenda (Tom) Watkins, as well as her son Vernon (Denny) Bergum and daughter in law Carole Bergum Lois is predeceased by her husband Nelson, eldest son Delmore Bergum and son in law Larry Robinson.
Lois passed away on October 6, 2018 at the age of 97 and is now joyfully reunited with her husband Nelson.
A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, October 11th at 2:00 pm at the Nazarene Church in Sedgewick, with fellowship and light lunch following the service at the Seniors Center on Main Street.
Memorial donations in memory of Lois may be made to the Sedgewick Cemetery Fund.
Nos plus sincères sympathies à la famille et aux amis de Lois
