Lois Verchomin passed away peacefully at Victoria Hospice surrounded by the loving presence of her family.
Mom was grateful to be healthy to the end and able to engage in life so fully. Her family is very thankful to have shared so much time with her; she was such a loving presence in all of our lives.
Lois was born in Okotoks, Alberta, the daughter of Pat and Lilian Nichols and the eldest of six girls. After being raised in Black Diamond, she moved to Edmonton where she attended the University of Alberta. There she met her husband, Eldon, and graduated as an elementary school teacher.
After raising her five children in Edmonton, she remarried and enjoyed many wonderful winters golfing with Orest and their friends in Palm Desert.
In 2015, Lois moved to Victoria to be closer to some of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She took so much delight in spending time with the little ones! Although she missed spending time with her dear friends in Edmonton, Mom loved her new home at Carlton House and the friends she made there.
Mom was loving, positive and supportive, always there for her family and friends. She had a wry sense of humour and was always ready to laugh, most particularly at the quirks and meanders of her own life.
All who knew her felt her grace and joy.
Lois was predeceased by her parents, Pat and Lilian, her sisters Jean, Muriel and Trisha. She will be sadly missed by her two remaining sisters, her five children, Trudy David, Doug Foote, Dean Foote (Wendy), Laurie Evans, Robert Foote, her grandchildren, Téana David, Nigel David (Danielle), Chantal David (Mike), Julian David, David Foote (Caroline), Shaun Foote (Fernanda), Abraham Foote, Brayden Foote (Charlene), Ryan Foote (Selena), Rachel Evans Schiller (Jesse), Leilani Evans, Fletcher Evans, Daniel Evans and her great grandchildren, Tyler, Dylan, Kaelin and Bella David, Riley and Parker Foote and Dayva Schiller, and her many nephews, nieces and friends.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Victoria Hospice for the loving care they provided for Mom in her last few days. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St Paul’s United Church Children’s Fund, Victoria Women’s Transition House Society, Victoria Hospice or a charity of your choice. Condolences may be offered to the family below.
