Obituary for Lois Jane Smith
Smith, Lois Jane, age 94, of Yarmouth passed away March 28, 2018 in the Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born February 14, 1924 in Weymouth Falls, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Ethel (Crawford) Smith. My mother, Lois Jane Smith was a daughter, sister, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Affectionately known as Dimp, Mom, Mother, Nan, Nanny and Ma. She started working as a house cleaner for the Parker family in Weymouth Mills at the age of 13 years old, also worked as a live in housekeeper for the Deveau family in Salmon River when she was 14 years old. She worked at the Goodwin Hotel in Weymouth for 4 years doing kitchen work, worked in the fish plant in Yarmouth for two years, took a sewing course from the Yarmouth Vocational School .She worked 30 years doing housework for various well known families in the Yarmouth area. She was a devote Anglican and a member of the Anglican Church in Weymouth Falls and Yarmouth for over 60 years. Her hobbies were sewing, knitting, cooking crocheting, ceramics,and gardening. She had a beautiful garden and took great pride in her garden. She was a volunteer with the Canadian Red Cross for 25 years. She was a member of ACW and Yarmouth Legion Ladies Auxiliary for over 25 years. She is survived by sons Eric « Chuck »(Carolyn Faye) Smith, Yarmouth; Calvin (Sandra) Smith, Greenville; daughters Donna (Bryan)Darrell, Halifax; Carolyn Smith, Halifax; Diane (Bert) Johnson, Calgary; Shelley Sparks, Halifax; sister Barbara Brown, Saint John, NB.; 8 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband Charles Smith; brothers Dirlin, Bus, Ernest; sisters Dora, Maxine, Alberta, Jean; grandson Marlen. Visitation will be Monday, April 2, 2018 from 7-9 pm in the Sweeny’s Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral service to be held Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at 2pm from the Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Yarmouth. Rev. Helen Chandler officiating. Interment in the Yarmouth Mountain Cemetery. Family flowers only. Memorial Donations may be made to the Palliative Care Dept at the Yarmouth Regional Hospital, Holy Trinity Anglican Church or Yarmouth Red Cross. Final arrangements have been entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home and Crematorium, Yarmouth.
