Lloyd William Wright
September 20, 1926 – July 23, 2018
Peacefully, in the early morning of Monday, July 23, 2018, Lloyd William Wright left us for a more perfect place. A place with no pain, no confusion and endless peace. He is survived by his wife Marion of 71 years, daughter Carol (Doug), son Richard (Sherry), grandchildren Becka, Jonathon, Lindsey and Kyle and five great- grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents Stan and Annie Wright, three brothers Ed, Cliff and Al and his sister Pearl.
Lloyd was born on a farm, south of Treherne, Manitoba where he also spent his younger years. As an adult, he spent the majority of his time in Winnipeg with regular sojourns back to his cabin north of Treherne on the Assiniboine River. From here, he hunted, fished and snowmobiled to fulfill his boyhood dreams in the country. The cliché “You could take the boy from the country but not the country from the boy” fit him to a tee. He even had the tee shirt!
For 34 years, Lloyd was a valued employee of Winnipeg Hydro working in a variety of positions. In his off time, he loved every aspect of life which included curling, country music (the storytellers) and most of all family gatherings. Watching any kind of sporting event, particularly watching his grandsons play minor hockey, baseball and soccer. He even partook in the odd skate. Travelling, especially to the West Coast, to see his family was a highlight in his life.
Lloyd was an active member of the Sir Sam Steele Legion, Sportman Wildlife Federation and for a number of years, he played senior slow pitch. Lloyd was always there when you needed a helping hand.
With declining health, Lloyd spent his last years as a resident of Tuxedo Villa. In turn, we would like to express our gratitude to the nursing staff and nursing aides (station 3) for the compassionate care they gave Lloyd during the last four years.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, July 30, 2018 at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Parkinson’s Society.
