Obituary for
Linda Penner (Matthies)
Linda Rita Penner, nee Matthies, was born in Lethbridge on February 14, 1933, and went to be with her loving Saviour on Tuesday, June 26, 2018.
Linda grew up on the farm outside of Coaldale, received her education there and graduated from high school. She then attended teacher training at the University in Calgary. She taught school in the Lethbridge area before attending Mennonite Brethren Bible College in Winnipeg where Linda met the love of her life, Jacob.
Married July 1, 1959 in Coaldale, Linda and Jacob moved to southern Ontario to begin their life together. In Ontario and the various places that the Penner family lived, Linda taught school. The family moved to Kansas where Jacob studied and served several churches between 1965 and 1968. Between 1968 and 1978, the family lived in southern Ontario where Linda and Jake again taught while raising their family. In 1978, the family moved to Medicine Hat, and further to Manitoba in 1982 teaching and serving churches at each place.
Linda was an amazing green thumb and her flower garden will attest to that. She spent the time we call free time, keeping her home and yard up to her and Jacob’s standard of excellence. Linda was also known for her clever combination of wit and humour.
Linda is survived by her husband, Jacob of Seven Persons; three loving children; Mark (Debbie) Penner of Seven Persons, Catherine Ann Friesen (Walter) of Winnipeg, and Lenore Marie Dyke (Carl) of Sylvan Lake; and sister, Helen Goertzen of Saskatoon. She leaves as her legacy nine grandchildren and spouses; five great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews across Canada and the US.
Linda was predeceased by her parents, Dietrich and Anna Matthies; her brother, Arthur Matthies; her sister, Mary Patterson; and her twin brother, Edwin Matthies at birth.
