Linda Frail
Linda Louise Frail (nee Cooke) passed away peacefully surrounded in the loving embrace of her family, accompanied by jazz music featuring her favourite instrument the clarinet on Sunday, January 14, 2018. She was 73 years young.
Linda always loved being by the sea, “just not in it”. Ever since growing up in Halifax with her parents, Ruby (Burke) and Lorne Cooke (both predeceased), along with sisters, Sandra Rice, Mona Recker and brothers, Gary (Sandy) and Richard (predeceased), her love of the ocean stayed with her in her travels from Drumhead Island to the Caribbean Sea.
After graduating in 1964, she embarked on an incredible 40 year career in the health profession as a Medical Laboratory Technologist, at the IWK, Camp Hill and Dartmouth General Hospitals where she made innumerable friends and contributions.
Beloved wife of her life’s one true love, Rodney (predeceased) they shared 17 happy years of marriage before Rodney was called to heaven. In that all too brief period they raised three wonderful children, daughter; Kelley (John Hrovat); sons, Timothy (Andrea) and Neal (Dawn) that now carry the legacy of the loving and kind spirit of their parents. After Rodney’s passing, Linda reinvented herself taking up a passion for Jive dancing with her merry band of friends at the Surf club and Old Favourites. She learned to play the clarinet, took up archery, enjoyed travelling as much as she could, rediscovered knitting and found a healthy obsession in all things Steven King and Dean Koontz.
Linda could light up a room with her effervescent personality and that infectious giggle. Those closest to her also knew her to enjoy the occasional practical joke with her infamous gadgets that made everyone laugh, and sometimes groan. The last reinvention in her latter years was that of ‘Ninny’ to her fine grandsons Damian, Zachary, Jacob, Tristan, Logan and Adrian, and great grandson, Liam. Often telling them grand stories like only Ninny’s can.
In the end, it’s a good life when you’ve been in love, been loved and given it all back to so many people. Linda did it with a feather’s touch through her genuine spirit and kindness. Linda you will be missed but not forgotten.
The family asks for expressions of sympathy to please consider a donation to the Canadian Liver Foundation. Cremation has taken place and a private interment beside Rodney, will take place at a later date.
A memorial open house gathering celebrating Linda, will be held on Friday, January 19th from 6-8 pm at the Old Ashburn Golf Course, 3250 Joseph Howe Dr., Halifax, N.S. We invite her many friends and family to join us and share stories of her time with us.
