OBITUARY
Linda Grace Harper
November 23, 1949 – July 20, 2018
It is with profound sadness that we say goodbye to Linda Grace Harper RN of Ottawa, formerly of Montreal. Daughter of the late Aletha and Claude Harper, best sister and best friend to Judy, beautiful light and partner to Michael McDuffe, caring stepdaughter to Audrey. Truly loved and cherished by Michael’s family – Mom Florence and sisters Sheila (Dave), Nora (Bill) and Nancy. Dearest and beloved aunt-of-the-heart to the Pulman nieces: Kate, Heather, Elizabeth and Victoria Linda. Loved and missed by so many friends.
Linda received excellent nurse training at the Jewish General and upon graduation worked at the Lachine General ICU making lasting friendships. She took a cardiac intensive care nursing course in Edmonton and returned to Montreal to work at the Montreal General ICU where she again made lifelong friendships. Linda, always seeking to increase her knowledge in order to improve the care she gave to her patients, moved to Halifax to attend Dalhousie University to earn her Bachelor of Nursing degree while working at the Victoria General. Linda settled in Ottawa working for a short time at the Ottawa General and finally at the Heart Institute as a nursing co-ordinator where she touched the hearts of patients, their families and colleagues alike until her much considered retirement three years ago.
Throughout her adult life Linda used her knowledge, expertise and innate compassion to care for her parents and countless family members as they received medical treatments, endured illnesses and supported them through their dying and death. She never hesitated to take time off from her job to do so and, even in retirement, continued to share her experience of a lifetime with those around her. She willingly and generously gave of herself her whole life.
Sincere and heartfelt thanks to the ICU staff at the Ottawa Hospital General Campus for their extraordinary care of Linda and Judy and Michael – Linda would have approved! In particular we wish to thank Dr. Mike Hartwich and caring nurse JoseeAnn for their outstanding support, professionalism and empathy.
Her family will receive condolences at Collins Clarke MacGillivray White Funeral Home, in Pointe-Claire, QC on Frida, July 27 from 7p.m. to 9 p.m.
The funeral celebrating Linda’s life will be held at St. Edmund of Canterbury in Beaconsfield on Saturday, July 28 at 11:00 am.
Final resting place at Lakeview Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cancer Society or Ottawa Hospital General Campus ICU.
