Lillian Ruth Rumley
Rumley (Hatch) Lillian Ruth – age 97 of Dartmouth. Passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 4th, in Arborstone Enhanced Care, Halifax.
Born in Halifax on August 14th, 1921, she was the daughter of the late David & Mary (Bonvie) Hatch.
In her early years she was a dispatcher for Bob’s Taxis. Later owned and operated a canteen on Brule Street in front of John Martin School. Ruth was a Life Member of Somme Branch Legion, Ladies Auxiliary and a member of Ruth Chapter, Eastern Star.
Ruth enjoyed knitting, quilting, baking bread and gardening. She had a passion for decorating for the different holidays. She took pride in her Christmas tree, and the tree had to be a red pine. Which always looked so beautiful, decorated perfectly. She never missed a Christmas Eve serving her rabbit pie.
Ruth and her husband of 49 years James C. Rumley lived most of their life in the north end of Dartmouth, and spent summers and fall at their camp in Giant’s Lake, Guysborough Co. In the late sixties the family moved to Grimes Ave. in the Woodlawn area of Dartmouth.
Ruth is survived by her sons, Charles “Eddie”, Stewiacke and James “Jim”, wife Jane, Lake Echo; grandson, Scott, wife Sammy Jo; great grandson, Jack, Lantz; granddaughter, Sarah, partner, Dave Swanson, Lake Echo; brother, Gerald, Ostrea Lake; several nieces and nephews; special nieces, Diane Sullivan and Violet Thomas. She was predeceased by her husband, James; brothers, Charlie, William, David, Gordon and sisters, Violet and Rose.

Visitation will be held from 1-3pm Wednesday, November 7th in Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main Street, Dartmouth. A graveside service will be held following the visitation at 3pm in Dartmouth Memorial Gardens. Although Ruth loved flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia.
