Steven Michael Lewin, 70, passed away suddenly on Wednesday January 10, 2018 at the Grey-Bruce Regional Health Centre in Owen Sound.
Steve was born on February 7, 1947 in Toronto, Ontario to William James and May Lewin(Walker). He graduated from Malvern Collegiate Institute, Toronto and from the University of Western Ontario with a Bachelor of Arts and Masters in Education. On June 16, 1967, he married Ainsley Evelyn Walford after two years of courtship following a chance badminton match at a friend’s Christie Beach cottage. Steve worked as an elementary school teacher at St. Vincent Euphrasia Elementary School School from 1972 until his retirement in 2003. He will be fondly remembered for his “joke of the day”, a favourite teacher for so many.
In his earlier years, Steve spent time coaching baseball and as an executive with Meaford Minor Hockey. He was also an accomplished long-distance runner, completing 5 marathons in his lifetime. Steve enjoyed traveling, summers at the cottage, spending time with his family, reading sports books and Hockey News, and was an avid Toronto Maple Leafs fan.
Steve is survived by his wife Ainsley of fifty years, son Michael(Joslyn), daughter Andrea(Ian Hodgkinson), brother Gary Lewin, sister Marilyn Lewin and grandchildren Dylan Lewin-Vanyi, Isabel and Hanna Lewin, his nieces and nephews, cousins and extended family. Steve was a loving father, husband, grandfather and friend to all. He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by close friends John and Janice Marshall.

Visitation will be held on January 16th from 4:00-7:00 at Gardiner-Wilson Funeral Home, 69 Denmark St. in Meaford, Ontario. Funeral services will be at the Meaford United Church on January 17th at 11:00am. Memorial donations can be made to the Meaford Hospital Foundation.
