OBITUARY
Leonard Connolly
June 24, 1926 – August 11, 2018
Leonard Connolly passed away peacefully on August 11, 2018 at the Village of Taunton Mills Retirement Home in Whitby, Ontario, at the age of 92. He will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 56 years, Mary; children Scott and Jane (Michael); sister-in-law Lucy and brother-in-law Barry; his extended family and his many friends.
Len was born in North London, England, growing up in Cricklewood under the loving care of his parents, Henry and Bertha, along with big brother Dennis. He served his country near the end of WWII in Sinai, Egypt. Returning to England he earned his coaching certificates in Lawn Tennis at Bisham Abbey and Lilleshall. Seeking the sun, he moved to Mandeville, Jamaica B.W.I. in 1952. Many parties, tennis and golf games later, he immigrated to Canada in 1958, a country he came to love. It is in Toronto, and through his childhood friend Bob Williams, he met Lucy Wren, her girlfriends, and the “Aussies”, leading eventually to the love of his life, Mary Rose Wren. Len and Mary married July 7th, 1962 and in 1964 they moved to “426” in West Rouge, where they raised their children, Scott and Jane. He was a machinist by trade and worked in sales and management positions in the flow instrumentation industry throughout his career. Active in community tennis in the 70s he had a life long love of the sport. He also loved working in his woodshop, his Labrador Retrievers, golf and relaxing with Mary in their garden enjoying a cup of tea, watching the birds. Len is fondly remembered for being a loving husband, father, a good neighbour and friend.
A very special thank you to those who cared for Len in his final years.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Village of Taunton Mills Retirement Home on Thursday, August 30th at 2 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Philpott Children’s Inner City Tennis Fund or the Alzheimer’s Society, Durham Region.
