Leon Beck
1955-2018
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Leon Harold Beck
announces his passing at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital (DECH) on
July 30 at the age of 63 after a long and courageous battle with
cancer. Born in Bridgewater, NS on February 3, 1955, he was the spouse
of Sophia Elizabeth Sheridan of Hanwell, formerly of
England.
In addition to his spouse, Sophia, Leon leaves behind his
daughter Leah Helen Sheridan, Luke Sheridan and his beloved companion
« Jake », his siblings Sharon Larder (Derek), Zita
Morris (George), Laurie Beck (Gail), as well as several nieces,
nephews, cousins and extended family members. Leon was predeceased by
his parents Harold and Alice (Walker) Beck.
Leon attended New Ross Consolidated School, and Kings
Regional Vocational School, where he completed a course in heavy
equipment mechanics and welding. At the age of 19, Leon moved to
Fredericton, where he worked for Caterpillar and Loundsbury for the
next 32 years. During this time, he worked primarily with
Timberjack tree harvesters as a trainer,
travelling to many points in Scandinavia and North America.
In 2005, Leon started a successful business, L&W Mechanical
Ltd., which he owned and operated to the present day.
Besides his work, Leon had a passion for the outdoors and all
things « speed » related. Many happy hours were spent
with his friends on their snowmobiles, four wheelers, and motorcycles.
He also frequented St. Andrews with his family at the
trailer.
There will be no visitation. A funeral service will
be held at the Brunswick Street Baptist Church on Friday, August
3rd at 1 pm, with Rev. Greg Geldart
officiating. For those that wish, donations in Leons’ name
can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, or Hospice Fredericton. A
special thank you goes out to all the medical staff in oncology,
especially Dr. Raza, and the staff in palliative care at the DECH for
their attentive and compassionate care during Leon’s
illness.
