OBITUARY
Lena M. Oland
August 21, 1930 – March 7, 2018
OLAND, Lena M. (RN) – Age 87 of Dartmouth, passed away peacefully on March 7, 2018 at Oakwood Terrace Nursing Home. Born in Tignish PEI she was the daughter of the late John R. and Emily (Harper) Gavin. Lena graduated from the Halifax Infirmary School of Nursing in 1953 and spent the next 38 years nursing at the Infirmary, Dartmouth General and eventually retired from Oakwood Terrace in 1991. After retiring, Lena volunteered at Oakwood accompanying residents to their medical appointments. She was a dedicated nurse and the comfort and care of her patients were always her top priorities. She was a long time parishioner of St. Clement’s Catholic Church and was active in the CWL She was an avid walker and also enjoyed knitting, quilting and searching for beach glass at the family cottage in PEI. She is survived by her husband Jack, children, John (Debbie), Cathy, David (Heather), Peter (Patricia), Jim (Michelle), grandchildren Charlene, Jenna, Chantel, Natacha, Nicholas, Brayden, great grandchild Owen, sister Eleanor and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers Harry, Howard, Lester, Clifton, Romey, Terrance, Arnold, George and Raymond and sisters Maureen, Delcina, Jane and Pearl. A memorial service will be held on Monday, March 12, at 10:30 am in St. Clement’s Roman Catholic Church, 16 Gaston Road, Dartmouth. Reception to follow in the church hall. Burial at a later date. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the amazing staff at Oakwood Terrace for their care and compassion over the past 11 years.
