Obituary for
Lena Turple
Lena Flora Turple passed away peacefully at Fishermen’s Memorial Hospital, Lunenburg, April 26, 2018 after a short illness.
Born in Martin’s Point, September 9, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Edwin and Hattie (Hiltz) Barkhouse.
She was a daughter, sister, mother, grandmother and great grandmother who loved being around people and having company and took great pride in all that she did. She married and later moved to Enfield, NS and then back to Martin’s Point to raise her family.
Lena was a very strong person who worked for many years out of the home. Her parents helped in raising Wayne so she was able to work away. She was an avid hockey fan and spent many hours watching her son David play.
She is the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was a member of St. Mark’s Church, Martin’s Point where she enjoyed and supported all their functions.
Lena is survived by son, Wayne (Jean) Turple, Martin’s Point; five grandchildren, Wayne, Halifax, Wanda, Victoria ,BC, Shaun (Leanne), Victoria BC, Josh (Jasmine), Bridgewater, Kaylee, Chester; three great-grandchildren, Riley, Bridgewater, Brandon, BC, Kaili, BC; sister-in-law, Aggatha Barkhouse, Bridgewater and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by parents, Edwin and Hattie Barkhouse; son, David; grandson, Ethan; sisters, Marion, Neva, Lillian; brothers, Lloyd and Weston.
Funeral Arrangements are under the direction of the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213, Hwy. # 3, Lunenburg and where a memorial service to celebrate Lena’s life will be held, Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at 11:00 am, Rev. Ron Barkhouse, officiating. Interment will be in Western Shore Cemetery, Western Shore.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, I.W.K. Grace Health Centre Foundation or to St. Mark’s Anglican Church.
