It’s with great sadness that we announce the passing of Leighton Thomas Waters at the age of 63. He passed away on July 15, 2018 at the Penticton Regional Hospital after battling years of organ failure.
Leighton was born January 6, 1955 in Nelson, BC before making his way to the Okanagan. As a teenager growing up in Kelowna, Leighton spent his summers water skiing and fishing and his winters playing hockey where he became a Bantam All-Star Goaltender and earned himself a spot on the Buckaroos,… Read More » Kelowna’s Junior “A” Hockey Team. With hockey in the rearview mirror, Leighton moved to Vancouver chasing a career in finance. It was here he met his wife, Trudy, before moving back to the interior where they settled down and had their 2 sons, Kris and Adrian. While raising their boys in Penticton Leighton demonstrated his love for baseball. Whether it was coaching his boy’s baseball teams or playing softball himself or just watching the Jay’s game. When Leighton wasn’t involved in ball, he was on the water or at least dreaming of being on the water. Leighton was a water sport enthusiast and avid fisherman who spent his last days trying to get back on the water one last time before passing.
Leighton is survived by his mother Margueritte; sister Narda (John); niece/nephew Laura
and Steven; son Kris (Candace); grandsons Tolson and Jackson and countless cousins.
Thank you to all those who have helped Leighton over the last few years as he struggled with his health. A special thanks to his ex-wife and best friend, Trudy, he couldn’t have done it without all your help and support.
Leighton will always be remembered for his great laugh, witty humor and his love of sports.
“I’d rather be fishing!”
