Laurence Lines
1922-2018
Mr. Laurence Lines of Athabasca, beloved husband of the late Agnes Lines, passed away peacefully at Athabasca, Alberta on Sunday, October 14, 2018 at the age of 96 years.
Laurence was born to Wes and Edna Lines in 1922 and lived north of Athabasca on a homestead in the Deep Creek area until he reached age five. The family then moved to a farm east and south of Athabasca where Laurence lived until enlisting in the Canadian forces serving overseas in World War II. In June of 1946 he returned to Athabasca and took up farming. Laurence married Agnes Richards in July of 1947 and they raised five sons on their mixed farm south east of Athabasca.
Laurence enjoyed playing softball, card games, and in later years, bowling. After Agnes’ passing in 1986, he continued to live on the farm with several of his sons and in his retirement he enjoyed: gardening, cooking, and daily trips to town to enjoy drinking coffee with his friends. At age 90, he took up residence in Athabasca at Pleasant Valley Lodge before moving to the Athabasca Auxiliary Hospital Long Term Care Facility, where he lived out the remainder of his days.
Laurence is survived by his sons: Larry (Shirley), Gordon (Dolores), Robert (Mon), Ron (Lorraine), and Darren (Wanida); grandchildren: Matthew (Angela), Roseann, Wendy (Craig), and Andrew (Sarah); and great grandchildren: Ruby, Alice, and Beth; brother: David (Christobel); and sister-in-law: Yvonne.
Laurence was predeceased by his wife Agnes, his parents Wesley and Edna, his sister Isadora Shank and brother Terry.
A prayer service will be held at 7:00 pm on Friday, October 19, 2018 at Athabasca Community Chapel (3403-48 Avenue, Athabasca, AB).
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, October 20, 2018 at All Saints Anglican Church (4904- 51 Street, Athabasca, AB) with the Rev. David Greenwood officiating. Internment is to follow in Athabasca Cemetery.
