Laura Sookochoff

Laura Sookochoff, beloved wife of the late Nick Sookochoff of Canora, SK, passed away at the Canora Gateway Lodge on December 10, 2018, at the age of 93 years.
Laura was born September 28, 1925, to John and Mary (Chernoff) Holoboff on the homestead in the Veregin District, SK. Growing up, Laura attended school in the Veregin area and helped her parents with mixed farming operations.
On December 3, 1950, Laura was united in marriage with Nick Sookochoff of the Veregin District. Together, they moved to the farm four miles southwest of Buchanan, SK, where they continued to reside until 1975, when they moved to Canora, SK. Laura dedicated her life and worked hard raising three boys and never complained about her polio disability. Throughout the years, as she was blessed with grandchildren, Laura treasured them with all her heart and spoiled them with her love, attention and baking. Laura enjoyed gardening, knitting, crocheting and attending farmer’s markets in the area. Her favourite card games were ‘Stop the Bus’ and ‘Kaiser,’ which she played all the time and was quite competitive while playing.
Above all, she enjoyed the company of her family and friends and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Laura was predeceased by her parents, John and Mary; husband, Nick; brothers, John Holoboff and Paul Holoboff and her son, Miles Sookochoff. She is survived by her sons, Lorne (Dawn) Sookochoff and Floyd (Caroline) Sookochoff of Saskatoon, SK; grandchildren: Geoff (Cora), Michelle (Troy), Jennifer (Phillip), Jon (Nancy) Warren (Ashley) Kevin (Manon), Kayla and Hanna; and great-grandchildren: Gwendolyn, Eleanora, Marsden, Dayzia, Trichelle, Tonielle, Jayden, Kaylie, Rose, Felicity, Cassidy, Celia, Emerson, Mieka, Jacob, Nicholia and Alice; as well as extended family and friends. A Celebration of Laura’s Life will be celebrated at 2:00 p.m., Friday, December 14, 2018, at the Chapel of Leson’s Funeral Home, Canora, SK, with Pastor Greg Bright officiating. Interment will follow in the Canora Cemetery. Those wishing to make expressions of sympathy may make donations to the Canora Gateway Lodge Auxiliary, as tokens of remembrance, in memory of Laura Sookochoff.
