L. Althea Jones
1918-2018
L. Althea Jones, a long time resident of Harvey Station, NB, passed
away on May 1, 2018 at Wauklehegan Manor, McAdam, NB. Born at Harvey
Station, NB on November 27, 1918, she was a daughter of the late Roy
Charles and Lila Mae (Little) Coburn.
Althea was a graduate of the Provincial Normal School and taught in
local area schools prior to her marriage in 1943. Althea loved
children and baby-sat preschoolers in her home for twenty years. She
acted as convenor of Women’s work in the Harvey area for the
Canadian Red Cross.
She was a member of St. Andrews United Church, Harvey, and a life
member of the UCW. She especially enjoyed playing scrabble,
knitting, quilting and eating out, but most of all she enjoyed her
family.
She is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Pundyk (Robert);
granddaughter, Mary Jane Pundyk (Lee Johnson); grandson, John Pundyk
(Sarah Stuchbury); great grandchildren, Christopher, Adam and Sarah
Johnson, Jackson, Riley and Tate Pundyk, all of Ottawa, ON; a
sister-in-law, Berneice Coburn Messer (Hayes); a brother-in-law,
Raymond Mersereau (Shirley); cousins, Paul Patterson (Rose Marie) and
Gordon Coburn (Carolyn); as well as several cherished nieces and
nephews.
In addition to her parents, Althea was predeceased by her husband,
Wilbur; a son, Lawrence; sisters, Shirley Mersereau and Margaret Wood;
brothers, Guy, James and Arnold Coburn; sisters-in-law, Violet Coburn
and Betty Coburn and brother-in-law, George Wood.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff at
Wauklehegan Manor for their dedicated care of Althea the last thirteen
months.
Although there will be no visitation, friends are welcome to attend a
funeral service to be held at St. Andrews United Church, 2350 Route 3,
Harvey, NB on Saturday, May 5, 2018 at 2 pm with Rev. Christine
Johnson officiating. Interment will take place at a later date at
Harvey Settlement Cemetery.
For those who wish to make a donation in memory of Althea, the family
has suggested the Harvey Settlement Cemetery.
