Our patriarch and hero, Papa Klaus, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his loved ones early on April 26, 2018 aged 88 years. Klaus was in control of his destiny to the very end and chose to join Chou Chou, the love of his life, 9 days ago after having a brief illness. Klaus will be remembered by his family and friends as a generous, gracious person whose life was defined by those he mentored, helped and what he was able to give to those in need.
Klaus is survived by his children Eric (Claudia), Ann (David), and Peter (Susan) and his grand children Peter, Mark, Jennifer, Tyler, Kyle and Sean. Klaus was preceeded in death by his wife Yolande aka Ma Chou Chou in 2007.
Klaus had an illustrious career in the Canadian mining industry spending some 45 years in various roles at Noranda Mining. He was an active member of the worldwide mining community and was respected for his knowledge of flotation circuit design among other things related to mineral processing system design and operation. He became a consultant after leaving Noranda and played an instrumental role in developing the world class Antamina Project, one of his proudest professional achievements. One aspect that was always on Klaus’s mind was mentoring young engineers and many went on to have successful careers of their own in the industry.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Kopriva Taylor Funeral Home in Oakville, Ontario. His body will be cremated and his ashes placed next to Ma Chou Chou’s at the Knox Presbyterian Church garden. A funeral service and reception will be held at the Knox Presbyterian Church in Oakville on Monday, April 30, 2018 beginning at 11:00 a.m. The church is located at 89 Dunn Street and reception hall is located there as well. All are welcome to attend and help celebrate Klaus’s life; please bring your funny stories to share!
In lieu of flowers, please send donations either to the Knox Church in Oakville, Sunnybrook hospital trauma acute care centre, or a charity of your choice. Klaus shared what he had with The War Amps and organizations whose primary focus was helping children everywhere.
The family would like to thank everyone for the love, support and assistance given to Klaus in his later years. In particular, Senen and Aireene, Klaus’s caregivers went well beyond the call of duty and gave Klaus exceptional care day and night. The staff at Sunnybrook hospital was also extraordinary in providing top notch medical care without exception during Klaus’s brief stay there. Finally, the palliative care team paved Klaus’s road and made his final journey home a comfortable and smooth one.
