Reid, Kenneth Elmon
The death of Kenneth Elmon Reid, a resident of the Veterans Health Unit in Fredericton, occurred at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital on Wednesday, December 19, 2018. Born in Sus, NB, on February 3, 1920, he was the husband of the late M. Louise Reid.
Ken leaves behind his sons, Douglas (Jennifer), James (Jacqui), John, David (Linda), and Andrew (Paula); daughter, Anne Meade (Steven); sisters, Vivienne Tabor and Bernice Wallace; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces, nephews, and extended family. In addition to his wife, Louise, Ken was predeceased by his parents, Hilyard and Blanche (Arnold) Reid; brother, Douglas; sister, Freda.
Ken began his career in the military in 1939 when he enlisted at the beginning of the Second World War. He served overseas until 1943 when he returned and married his wife, Louise. In 1945, after the end of the war, he enrolled at UNB and in 1949 graduated with a degree in Forestry Engineering. He went on to have a distinguished career in this field working for many years in Quebec until his move to Fredericton in January of 1968 where he worked with the Forest Extension Service until his retirement in 1981. In his retirement years he enjoyed working with Louise, harvesting Christmas trees and making maple syrup products which they sold at various craft shows.
Ken liked to be active and enjoyed bowling, sailing and especially golfing; golfing into his 96th year.
Visitation will be held at McAdam’s Funeral Home, 160 York St., Fredericton, on Saturday, December 29, from 2-4 & 7-9 pm and on Sunday, December 30, from 2-4 & 7-9 pm at Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive in Sus. The funeral service will be held from Trinity Anglican Church, 853 Main Street in Sus, on Monday, December 31, 2018 at 11:00 am officiated by The Rev. Canon Tom Stradwick, The Ven. John Sharpe and The Rev. Terry Doncaster. Interment will take place in Trinity Cemetery in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations made to the Shriners or a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family. Online condolences can be made at www.mcadamsfh.com.
