Obituary for
Kenneth Norman Holmes
A consummate entrepreneur with a generous, gentle, kind and thoughtful soul passed away on November 30th ,2018 peacefully with family.
Kenneth Norman Holmes
Son of Gunnar Hans Holm and Alzena Caroline Lowes
Born June 4, 1942 Outlook, Saskatchewan
Asleep November 30, 2018 Red Deer, Alberta at the age of 76
Ken met Sylvia, the love of his life in 1964, and made what he called the best decision of his life by marrying her six months later. People may of have thought it could never last, but fifty-four years of blissful friendship has proven those people wrong. Ken started his professional career as a Corporate fixer for the McLeod’s Hardware Company. This moved Ken and Sylvia and family around Western Canada, more than your average Military family!
In 1975, Ken seized the opportunity to start his own business and moved to Vermilion, where he built Vermilion Trailer Sales Limited. That was awarded Dealer Of The Year more than a few times. Ken owned other assorted businesses; such as the local Laundromat and Mobile Home Rentals. Not surprisingly, Ken’s business was one of the busiest in town near closing time; where many would stop by to see him at the end of the day, for some conversation and cheer. After seventeen years, Ken and Sylvia moved to Toronto for a change of pace and ultimately retired with a move to Red Deer in 1999.
He was a dedicated man that took responsibility for his family. Papa Ken cherished everyone, especially the gift of his brother, Raymond joining him and Sylvia in1965, as a part of his immediate family, along with his grandchildren, Alexandra, Connor, Hudson and his three sons, Tim, Jason and Neil.
Ken will lovingly be remembered by his friends, family and neighbors for his care and helpful services. If you do something, you do it right, the more screws the better. The passion he had for vehicles of all shapes, sizes and mode of transportation kept the boys in slick wheels, sleds, bikes, trikes, quads and boats; that created opportunities for quality family time and enjoyment. However, the boys did not always stay between the lines; nor always relax Ken!
Ken loved to dance, both on the dance floor and in life. We all love you and will be seeing you soon, until then take it easy and rest.
A Memorial Service will be held on May 11, 2019. Details will be posted at a later date on www.parklandfuneralhome.com and in the Vermilion Standard and Red Deer Advocate.
