Chute, Kenneth Earl
Kenneth Earl Chute, born May 5, 1946, passed away September 24, 2018, at the Northwood in Halifax, NS, surrounded by loving family. Ken is survived by his wife Deanna of 46 years and daughter Holly. He is also survived by sister Shirley (Brian) Neufeld, sister-in-law Elaine Nickerson, brother-in-law Wayne (Donna) Nickerson; and nieces and nephews. Ken is predeceased by his parents John and Jeanne Chute.
Ken grew up on a farm in Nokomis, Saskatchewan. He had a joyful childhood that filled him with many fond memories, which he enjoyed recounting with tenderness and humor. He greatly favored his father John, from whom he inherited his mischievous streak and love of bluegrass music.
Ken graduated from Saskatchewan Technical Institute with a diploma in electrical engineering technology and moved to Halifax in 1968. A few months later Ken asked Deanna Nickerson to dance at the Halifax Jubilee Boat Club, and they got married in 1972. In 1988 their daughter Holly was born.
Ken loved his career at Westinghouse, and was enthusiastic about the everyday details of his work and home life. He would wake up early each morning to enjoy a large breakfast and just a little more of the day. Ken had a knack for making lifelong friends, and would say you know you have a real friend when years have passed since you’ve seen them, yet nothing has changed once you’re together again. He cherished time with friends and family on “no time schedule”, reminiscing, doing odd jobs, playing music, and having a laugh. He was unconditionally friendly and gentle, and enjoyed his life tremendously.
Ken was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 1996, after which time with him became all the more precious. The family is grateful for all the friendship and support around them over the past few years, and would like to thank the Northwood staff of 6C for their care, compassion, and blueberry pie. The funeral will take place at Knox United Church in Lower Sackville at 1:00pm on October 3rd, with reception to follow. No visitation. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Parkinson’s Society.
