Obituary Overview
Kenneth Alan Edmonds
EDMONDS, Kenneth Alan
Age 82, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 25, 2018 in Dartmouth General Hospital. The third eldest child of the late William and Marjorie (Wilson) Edmonds, Ken was born November 11, 1935, in Halifax. He is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 27 years, Mary Blanche (Robar), and they enjoyed a wonderful retired life together, living in Dartmouth and Lantz. He was pre-deceased by his first wife of 26 years, Lillian (Crosby) in 1989, raising their family in Dartmouth. Ken said he was the luckiest man in the world to have found two wonderful women to spend his life with, and he was a thoughtful, loving husband. He leaves behind from his first marriage, daughters Catherine (Darren) Richard, Lawrencetown and Gail Finter-Edmonds, Sackville, and from his second marriage step-children Audra Davenport, Martin’s River, Norman (Karen) Tibbetts, Amherst, and Jamie (Anna) Tibbetts, Ottawa. Ken is also survived by brothers Bill (Joan), Arthur/Tiny (Stella), Jim, Albert, Ray (Sheila) and Ron (Linda) Edmonds, sister Aileen (Lyle) Huard; grandchildren Eric and Ashley Richard, Stefanie Hazelden, Josh and Jennifer Tibbetts; great grandchild Grayson Rayworth; several nieces, nephews and cousins; close friends, who were like brothers, Bud (Rita) Colp and Al (Liz) Lemmon, and siblings of Blanche and Lillian, to whom he was a special brother-in-law; many wonderful friends, colleagues and neighbors. Ken also leaves behind his “little girl” Lexi, his Jack Russell terrier, whom he enjoyed so much.
Ken grew up in the North End of Halifax and was a graduate of Halifax County Vocational High School. He worked at Defence Research Establishment Atlantic (D.R.E.A) for 37 years and was highly respected for his work there. Up until the fall of 2017 and his hospitalization in January, Ken enjoyed good health, and even throughout a difficult illness, he retained his sharp mind for detail and amazing memory. He spoke of earlier days in his youth and adult life with fondness, remembering events, places and names of everyone involved. Ken loved the outdoors and spent many years hunting and fishing, mostly in the Musquodoboit area of Nova Scotia. Later in life he found a great passion for cooking and shopping for meals and so he leaves behind well-organized and stocked freezers. He and Blanche enjoyed spending time relaxing at their cottage and home, taking day trips throughout Nova Scotia and also travelled to the United States throughout the years. He and Lillian spent many years camping at Kejimkujik National Park, attending rallies with the Independent Order of Foresters, and also spent many enjoyable times at “the camp” and the Crosby homestead in Yarmouth. Visitation will be Thursday, March 29th from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main Street, Dartmouth. Memorial service will be held at the funeral home chapel on Saturday, March 31st at 11:00 AM, Reverend Michael Vlahos officiating, with burial immediately after the service and a reception following. For those wishing, donations may be made to Guillain-Barre Syndrome Foundation of Canada, PO Box 42016, 2851 John Street, Markham, ON L3R 5R0 or Souls Harbour Rescue Mission, PO Box 9255 RPO CSC, Halifax, NS B3K 5M8 or charity of choice.
The family would like to thank all the health professionals at DGH, most notably the nurses and physicians who attended to Ken on 3West and ICU, all those who visited and called, neighbors who assisted Blanche and everyone who kept us in their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
