Obituary of Keith FREEMAN
Keith Alfred Freeman was born in Assiniboia, Saskatchewan on April 18, 1947, and passed away at age 71 in Calgary, Alberta, on Tuesday, September 18, 2018.
He was truly a free-spirit, with a love of nature and animals which began at the age of two, when he brought home a stray cocker spaniel puppy named Sandy. In his lifetime he had several dogs; a 4-H black angus calf; an appaloosa horse; a chameleon; several rabbits; a crow (which he taught to talk); a hawk; a turtle that he found in a creek bed, a gerbil (that, when he decided he could no longer keep, he quietly donated to Super S Drug Mart to be with other gerbils); and, most recently, a cat named Nicki.
Keith was educated in Crane Valley School until 1961, when the family moved to Lethbridge, AB. When they moved to Calgary in 1964, he attended and later graduated from Henry Wise Wood Sr. High. He apprenticed at SAIT for numerous tickets including plumbing, gas fitting, and indoor plant specialist. He also worked at several other occupations including grounds keeper and building maintenance operator. Keith volunteered at the Ogden Community Association, Murdoch Manner, and the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
He was friendly and outgoing, had a witty sense of humor, and liked to make others laugh. He loved reading, watching documentaries, and playing card games. Among his prized possessions were his Sunbeam and his 1965 Mustang. Keith was very creative and had the ability to fix anything. He could make something out of almost nothing and enjoyed working with his hands.
He is survived by his brother Rick; sisters, Karen and Cheryl; niece Lyndsay (Asim, Maya and Dylan), Melissa (John, Cole and Kalem); nephews Adrian, Julian (Katie and Jude); as well as many cousins in Alberta and Saskatchewan.
Keith is predeceased by his father, Alfred Leasle, in 1999, and mother, Phyllis Irene, in 2007.
Keith will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
