OBITUARY
Keith Jonathan Brumwell
May 31, 1948 – March 12, 2018
BRUMWELL, Keith Jonathon – May 31, 1948 – March 12, 2018. After a brief illness, Keith died at
home with family by his side. Keith was born in Montreal and was a teenager when he moved
with his family to Simcoe, Ontario. It was there that he first expressed his love of a uniform
working as an usher at the Strand Cinema. He joined the navy as a young man, drawn to Nova Scotia
where his older brother was living. It was in the navy, where he trained as a photographer and diver,
that Keith was given the foundation that allowed him to become the wonderful person he was.After
the navy, Keith changed careers and became a member of the Halifax Police Department so he could
better use his people skills and desire to help others. After marrying Lois, the love of his life, and
the birth of his two sons, Gregory and Ryan, Keith became the first married man from NS to join
the RCMP. With the unwavering support of Lois, who had two very young children to look after,
Keith had to leave his young family for months of training in Regina and the start of a 32 year
career in the RCMP. Keith served in many communities throughout Nova Scotia and taught at
Depot, the RCMP Training Academy in Regina, SK, supported by Lois throughout the many
moves. During his career in law enforcement, Keith expressed great empathy for those he served
so diligently. Keith loved being an RCMP officer and he exemplified the very best of his profession.
Keith had many talents, not the least of which was a beautiful singing voice that he shared with his
church and various choirs. In his private life, Keith continued to give back to his community
serving as a volunteer in over 30 organizations where he not only further showed his work ethic
but also his love of life and a good laugh. Keith is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years, Lois;
his cherished sons Gregory (Christelle and granddaughter Joanna) and Ryan; brothers Gary (Sue),
John (Joan), Trevor (Janet) and sister Cynthia and various nieces and nephews. Keith was predeceased
by his brother, Derek, his parents James and Georgina and brother-in-law Mark Isber. A celebration
of Keith’s life will be held on Saturday, March 17, at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 100 Ochterloney
St., Dartmouth. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Mental Health Association,
Halifax-Dartmouth Chapter or Building in Faith, First Baptist Church Dartmouth Building Fund.
