Obituary Overview
Forever in our Hearts and Memories
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved Karla on Tuesday, February 27, 2018. Karla (Karlita) Wellington died peacefully in her home on Tuesday, February 27, 2018, surrounded by loved ones. Karla will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by all her family and friends.
Karla is survived by her parents, Estrella and Carlos Santillan; husband, Craig Wellington, son, Declan Oliver, step-children, Xana Wellington, Brandon Wellington, and Cameron Wellington, brother Tony and family, and granddaughter, Allyna.
Karla was born on December 27, 1965 in Manta, Ecuador. After an idylic childhood surrounded by a close loving extended family, she moved to Canada with her brother Tony and parents, when she was 6 years old. She made many lifelong friendships attending Mississauga’s Holy Name of Mary high school. She graduated from the Toronto Institute of Fashion Merchandising & Design, and had a fulfilling career using her creativity and strong interpersonal skills in fashion merchandising, special events, PR, hotel management and TV and media production. Karlita enhanced her career with various activities and endeavours, including fashion and food blogging, and journalism.
Karla’s exotic beauty, her mane of curly hair, her positive energy and her distinct style were her trademarks. And even as she battled valiantly against cancer for 9 years, she never let it change her positive outlook on life. She always dressed up, turned up, and ‘turnt’ out. Most who saw her over the past several years, never even knew she was battling cancer, even with the often changing hairstyles, from long flowing curly hair, to short pixie cuts, to close cropped, to short fros, to a blonde tinged afro that a lion would have been proud of. She was always out with her dear husband Craig or her friends, experiencing life, discovering new restaurants, events, interesting places to visit, and places to dance, and dance, and dance. This was a testament to her indomitable spirit. A beautiful butterfly constantly evolving and becoming even more beautiful and soaring higher and higher.
Her son, Declan, is her pride and joy and listening to his beautiful opera trained voice is one of her greatest treasures. Fittingly, she passed away peacefully in her sleep as Declan sang to her at her bedside. On April 19, 2009, she married her soulmate Craig Wellington, after a 3 year romance. Together, they enjoyed many beautiful adventures, living life to its fullest and setting a wonderfully inspiring example of love.
Karla will be remembered for her immense love for life, her generous and infectious spirit, enormous capacity for love—and most especially, her love of music and dancing. Karla’s bright smile remains an inspiration to all those who have been touched by her and the passionate way she embraced every moment and sought joy in all things.
Visitations will be held at Scott’s Funeral Home on 289 Main St. North in Brampton on Friday, March 9, 2018 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday, March 10, 11 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. A celebration of life will follow on March 10, 2018 at Kennedy Road Tabernacle, Brampton, 141 Kennedy Road North from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
We invite all to join us in celebrating the life of such a vibrant woman and ask that family and friends honour Karlita’s fiery spirit and impeccable sense of style by wearing bright, fashionable clothing to Karla’s Celebration of Life.
