Justin Robert Neil Reid (February 23 1989 January 21 2018)

REID, Justin Robert Neil Born on the 23rd of February, 1989 in Montreal, QC and gone too soon at the age of 28 on 21 January 2018 in Dartmouth, NS. Justin will be remembered for his lightning wit, his gentleness with animals and conscientiousness with people, his love for his little boy Malcolm and his desire for social justice. He had a quick mind and enjoyed a wide variety of hobbies like target practice, hunting, guitar, music, video games, astronomy and standup comedy for which he had a natural talent and performed and The Company House in Halifax to high praise. Justin was a member of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada (RASC). He loved coffee, a good wine and forever lamenting the discontinuation of the Big Xtra at McDonald’s. We have beloved memories of his love for animals in action as he fed the bunnies at White Point with his foster-mom, rescuing stray and starving dogs or stopping to pet the flock of pugs at the zoo with his son. Memories that can be both hilarious; the time he accidentally poked his own eye backwards at the age of 12 (don’t worry, he and the nurses laughed too), as well as heart-warming such as his insistence to adopt a family for Christmas during his first year in a group home. Justin’s love of exploring the province with his family on Sundays, watching movies and comedies, walks on the beach with his son, and wild and fun times with his friends will always be remembered very fondly. Justin would ask that we always watch out for each other and help to catch those who are falling. He himself helped many when he could. In lieu of donations or flowers, he would ask you to consider the very broken Nova Scotia health and youth care systems. While, as much as we wish we could, we are not be able to change the ending of Justin’s story we may be able to help someone else. Please consider paying Justin’s love forward with an act of kindness to someone in need. No act is too small. A dear bright witty friend, son, brother, father, partner has left us and we grieve but remember his light. Justin is survived by his Mother, Sharon Reid (Orillia, ON), Sisters Chrystine Reid (Halifax, NS) and Maddison Reid (Orillia, ON), Foster Mother Heather MacAuley (Dartmouth, NS), Brothers though love Evan MacAuley (Halifax, NS) and Sean Gillies (Dartmouth, NS), Partner Cara Henderson (Dartmouth, NS), Co-Parent Emma Swinemar (Dartmouth, NS) and his most precious and beloved son Malcolm Reid (Dartmouth, NS), not to mention his countless friends and co-workers with the Nova Scotia Liquor Corporation with whom he had spent the last 6 years. We love you so much Justin and you are so deeply missed. The celebration of Justin’s life will be at the Christ Church on 50 Wentworth St. in Dartmouth at 10am on Saturday Feb. 10, 2018. Snacks and reception are to follow at the Church. We invite all to attend and for anyone who may have stories of photos that they wish to share of Justin to reach out to the family. We would love to have anything you may have so his son can remember his father.
