June Florence (Leedham) Crockett
Passed away April 16, 2018 in Lacombe, Alberta. Born in Red Deer, June spent her early years in Calgary with her grandmother while her parents, John Wilkinson (Jack) Leedham and Doris Mary (Collins) Leedham, established the Home Grill Restaurant on Ross Street in Red Deer. June attended school in Red Deer where she excelled in sports. She was an exceptionally gifted swimmer winning many awards. After high school, June went to secretarial college in Vancouver. In 1953 June married Wilfred Roy Crockett. Roy’s career took them to Calgary, Ottawa and Edmonton. June held a number of secretarial jobs but especially enjoyed her time with the bank. Red Deer was always home and Sylvan Lake was a special place to spend summer days. June could be found scooping ice cream in the Sylvan Lake restaurant if she was not at the beach in her most fashionable beach attire. She enjoyed her time with friends on the beach working on her tan. June had various garden spots and with a trunk full of garden tools she could often be found tending to them. On weekends in Sylvan Lake June could be found searching for garage sales looking for the best bargains. June had a flair for fashion and a passion for figure skating. She traveled to various figure skating competitions in North America and followed skaters’ careers. Before her health declined, Hawaii was June’s favourite vacation spot; oh, how she loved to get a good sun tan. The Golden Circle played an important part in June’s later life. She was honoured for her various volunteer works. A very reserved and private person, June was a devoted daughter. June’s health declined in recent years and she passed away in Lacombe Hospital with family at her side. She will be sorely missed by family and friends.
In accordance with June’s wishes, no services are being held. Internment has taken place. June rests alongside her mother and grandmother in Union Cemetery, Calgary.
