Obituary for
Joyce Lynch (Coleclough)
Joyce Lynch (née Coleclough) 1929-2018
Died December 15, 2018, Ottawa, Ontario
Joyce passed peacefully at the Elisabeth Bruyère Hospital. She is reunited with her love and husband of 55 years, Thomas Lynch (1924-2004), whom she has missed dearly. Joyce will also be welcomed by her loving grandson Brenton, her siblings Cyril and Joan, and her parents George and Bertha. She is survived by her sister Kathleen, as well as children Tricia (Brad), Pauline (Don), Tom (Lisa), and Sean (Anna), all of whom she loved bigger than the whole world. ‘Nana’ will be greatly missed by her grandchildren Kyle (Melissa), Cameron (Stephanie), Cody, Liam, Kieran, Maeve and Eva, and her great-grandchildren Jack, Lola, and Knox.
Born July 10, 1929 in Stockport, England, Joyce married Tom in 1949 and emigrated to Canada in 1952, settling in the Toronto area and starting a family shortly thereafter. Joyce devoted herself to raising their four children to be independent, conscientious and hard-working. Her immense love, strength of will, great spirit, and sense of fun have always been a source of inspiration to her family.
Joyce’s generous nature made her a shining light in her communities, particularly the Grace Church Ladies Auxiliary in Markham, and the Richmond Care Home and Maplewood Retirement Residence in Ottawa. Joyce loved helping anyone in need, frequently cooking and baking for friends, family and her church, and always driven by the credo ‘if a job is worth doing, it’s worth doing well.’
Anyone who met the force of nature that was Joyce would have felt the tremendous love she had within. And if you didn’t feel it, she made sure to tell you. Together with her wonderful sense of humour and contagious laugh, her warmth and kindness led nurses, care workers, neighbours, restaurant servers, and even the most casual acquaintance to fall in love with her. Joyce loved to sing out loud with friends and family, remembering every word to all the old songs. She carried that love into her later years, when sing-alongs at her retirement residences and at family events would bring her to life.
Joyce’s family would like to extend a special thanks to the wonderful staff at Richmond Care Home, Maplewood Retirement Residence, and the Bruyère Hospice for their skilled and compassionate care.
Family and friends are invited to greet the family at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 315 McLeod Street (at O’Connor) on Wednesday, December 19 from 10am until time of the Celebration of Joyce’s life in the Chapel at 11am. Reception to follow in the McGarry Family Reception Centre.
Joyce loved gathering family around the dinner table, especially at Christmas time. In lieu of flowers, a fitting tribute would be a donation to the Ottawa Food Bank to help other families to do the same thing. In remembrance of Joyce’s beautiful spirit, tell someone special how much you love them.

Nos plus sincères sympathies à la famille et aux amis de Joyce
