King – Joyce Valancy King of Bassano passed away at Bassano Health Centre on June 9, 2018 at the age of 83. Joyce met her future husband Billy King while stationed in Whitehorse with the Royal Canadian Air Force and they were married at Niagara Falls in 1956. They raised their family while residing in Calgary where she was employed as a Unit Clerk at Foothills Medical Centre. They relocated to Gem in 1981 and Joyce would work many years in Bassano. In 1990 she became a Journeyman Cook and was employed at Buds Esso. Joyce has a strong work ethic and spent 18 years preparing meals at Playfair Lodge. She was very efficient with her work and as a result she became affectionately known around the Lodge as “The Tornado”. Joyce was a hard worker, an avid reader and very much enjoyed horses. She was predeceased by her husband Billy in 2013 and her sister Cassie Peake of Finnegan. She is survived by her three loving children; Wayne, Laura and David; eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren. At Joyce’s request there will be no formal service. In memory of Joyce, if family or friend’s desire, memorial donations may be made to the Comfort Fund at Playfair Lodge.
