Joyce Carson
Passed away peacefully at Hillcrest Village in Midland on May 17, 2018 at the age of 93 years. Cherished mother of William ‘Bill’ (Florence), Roberta ‘Bobbi’ (Bruce) and Randy (Sue). Survived by her loving sister Wanda Ruszczk. Predeceased by husband Captain Robert ‘Bob’ A. Carson and children; Danny, Stanley and Janice and her loving brother Stan. Will be missed by her loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Joyce was born in Poland in 1924 and immigrated to Canada with her family in 1938. After studying Fashion Design in Toronto she worked in the Fashion Industry on Spadina Avenue. She designed for Tip Top Tailors, McCall Patterns and designed many weddings. During her time in Toronto she worked on and designed for Eaton Santa Clause Parade. Upon moving to Midland, she continued her designing career with Fabulous Formals continuing her work in wedding designs and consulting. She also taught sewing lessons for children and was an adult sewing instructor for Midland Secondary School for 13 years. Joyce was also involved with numerous community projects such as; Midland and Winterama floats where she won numerous prizes for her designs, fashion shows for charities, she was in charge of the past design of the kilts for the Midland Legion Pipes and Drums and uniforms for the Midland Marching Band. Joyce was a proud member and past president of Woman’s Axillary Branch 80 and the Rebekah Lodge of Midland. Visitation will be held at the Nicholls Funeral Home, 330 Midland Avenue, Midland, on Wednesday May 23, from 1:00p.m. to 2:00p.m. A celebration of life service will be held in the chapel at 2:00p.m. Memorial donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society would be greatly appreciated.
