Send Sympathy Card
Joe Reimer was born in Manitoba on April 17, 1945. Joe attended school in Kleefeld and was baptized upon the confession of his faith at the age of 16, into the Kleefeld EMC church. In 1961, he moved to Blumenort where Joe started to attend the Blumenort EMC which Olga also attended. Six years later, on November 25, 1967, Joe and Olga were married.
Joe studied mechanics and was briefly employed as a mechanic before he felt that he needed more Bible knowledge, which led him to attend the Steinbach Bible Institute. The opportunity to do mission work in Trinidad was presented to Joe and Olga and, wanting to make a difference in people’s lives, they committed to 2 years of providing maintenance at Bible camps in Trinidad and Aruba with TEAM (The Evangelical Alliance Mission).
This began a lifetime of commitment to missions. Joe was willing to go where God called him, from war-torn Rhodesia to apartheid South Africa to quiet Blumenort. He was a jack of all trades and often combined his skills in maintenance and construction with preaching, teaching and discipling believers around him.
When he returned to Blumenort, Joe did not sit idle! He became involved in the BEMC by serving on the Missions Committee, and joining the Singing Grandpa’s with his strong bass voice.
Joe loved travelling and was always up for an adventure. He was a master storyteller and especially loved to share stories of his experiences in Africa. His heart for Africa never left him as even in his last weeks in the hospital, he imagined himself to be there.
Joe was faithful in his commitment to God and faithful in his commitment to Olga, his beloved wife. They celebrated 50 years together in November, this last year.
In 1999, Joe was diagnosed with a bone marrow disease but was able to enjoy many good years of health before this disease turned into a 6 month battle with leukemia. Thank you to the medical staff on the Second Floor at Bethesda Hospital who cared for Joe in his final days.
Joe was ushered into the presence of Jesus, His Saviour on Sunday, April 22, 2018 at the age of 73.
He is survived by his wife, Olga, one brother Elvin (and Anne), one sister Helen Goschke, and one sister-in-law Dianne Reimer and their families. He is also survived by many Plett in-laws, nieces and nephews and their families.
He was predeceased by his parents, Bernard and Elizabeth Reimer and his brothers: Abe and Ben.
1 Thessalonians 1:3: We remember before our God and Father your work produced by faith, your labor prompted by love, and your endurance inspired by hope in our Lord Jesus Christ.
The funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 26, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at the Blumenort Evangelical Mennonite Church, Blumenort, MB, with a viewing one hour prior to the service. The burial will follow at the church cemetery.
If friends so desire, donations in memory of Joe may be made to TEAM (The Evangelical Alliance Mission).
