Joseph Kenneth « Ken » Perry
1934-2018
It is with great sadness that the family of Joseph Kenneth
« Ken » Perry announce his passing on August 26, 2018. Born on
April 12, 1934, in Summerside, PEI, he was the son of the late Raymond
and Flora (Gauthier) Poirier.
Growing up in Summerside, PEI in a small town with an air
force base, Ken joined the air cadets at an early age and quickly
excelled as one of the top cadets. As a result, he was chosen as one
of a limited group to travel to England for 3 weeks on tour as a
cadet. His life would likely have seen a career in the air force if it
wasn’t for being colour blind and not being able to proceed on that
path. His new path in life took him into banking and quickly moving up
the ranks from a clerk to a bank manager at different branches in PEI
and NB. It was during this time while working at a bank in Saint John,
NB, Ken met the love of his life Joan who was a teller at the same
branch. In 1960 they married and started their family shortly after.
In 1970, Ken, Joan and their three kids moved to Fredericton to start
a new career as a tax auditor with the Province of NB and spent the
next 27 years at the Dept. of Finance before retiring in
1996.
Ken will be greatly missed by his wife Joan (McIntyre);
children Brian Perry (Kellie), Patricia Scott (Paul) and Diana Perry
(Dan Cybulski); grandchildren Bradley, Vanessa, Matthew, Michael and
Anderson; great grandchildren Amelia and Perrin; sisters
Audrey Arseneault, Marjorie Johnson (Ron) and Joanne
Rowan (Barry); brothers Leo (Louise), Allan (Pat) and Ray
Poirier (Norma) as well as several nieces, nephews and
cousins.
In addition to his parents, Ken is predeceased by his sisters
Elaine Dale, Ruth Perry and Evelyn Godfrey as well as a
brother Lloyd Poirier.
In 2002, Ken recovered from a 3 month stay in the hospital to
go on to live a wonderfully rich and fulfilling life for the next 16
years. His family is forever grateful for this borrowed time they had
with him.
The family would like to thank Drs. Cheryl Rushton, Anne
Colpits and Pat Feltmate for their kind and loving care throughout his
hospital stay.
We love you a bushel and a peck, and know you love mom a
barrel and a heap. We will always honour your memory as the kind,
loving and smart man that you are.
By request, there will be no visitation. A memorial mass will
be held for family and friends at St. Dunstan’s Catholic
Church on Thursday, August 30, 2018 at 12:05 pm. In lieu of flowers,
donations may be made to a charity of the donor’s
choice.
