Joseph Bernard Stevens
1944-2018
It is with sadness we announce the sudden passing of
Joseph Bernard Stevens, age 74, of
Amherst. Joseph passed away at the Cumberland Regional Health Care
Centre on Monday, August 20, 2018.
Born in Amherst, NS, he was a son of the late Pearl
Stevens.
Joe worked as a sailor on the great lakes. He was a miner and
dragger man in River Hebert, Joggins and Grand Cache, AB. He worked
for the A.P.R.C.H.H. as a Maintenance man. In his later years he
worked on Highway Construction as a Heavy Equipment Operator. Joe was
an avid reader, especially world history and conflicts, world
geography and ship building. Joe enjoyed having a coffee with his
coffee club friends and staff family at MacDonald’s. Joe was an
outgoing and personable, happy and flirty person. He enjoyed home
cooking. An avid animal lover; Joe loved to learn and was self taught.
He had strong religious and personal beliefs. He will be fondly
remembered and missed by his family.
Joe will be sadly missed by his son, Kevin, of Winnipeg, MB;
daughters, Sherry of Winnipeg, MB, Tammy of Toronto, ON; sisters, Nola
Davis (Bob) of Saint John, NB, Delia Scott of Amherst, NS; brothers,
Dave Bugley (Leona) of B.C., Kirk Bugley of Amherst, NS, Rennie Bugley
(Bonnie) of Cumberland Co.; nine grandchildren, four great
grandchildren.
Besides his parents, he was predceased by his sister, Eunice
« Honey » Allison.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of
Furlong-Jones Funeral Home, 70 Church
St., Amherst, NS (902-667-8777). A celebration of life will be held at
the St. Paul the Apostle Parish Hall, River Hebert (2928 Barronsfield
Rd) Sunday, August 26, 2018 from 1-3 p.m.
Those wishing to make a donation in Joseph’s memory may do so
to the Diabetes Society, Heart & Stroke Foundation or the L.A.
Animal Shelter.
