Obituary of John Williamson
WILLIAMSON: John Alexander
On June 24th, 2018, John Williamson passed away in the Mattawa Hospital/Hospice. John and Doreen have been seasonal campers at the Sid Turcotte Park for 36 years, with John arriving the first day the park opened and leaving the last day the Park closed.
John became disabled at the age of 49 through a life-changing stroke, that left him unable to speak, read or write. But his Mattawa friends always seemed to understand him. Whether it was at the Wilson Home Hardware Store when he stopped it to look for items, or groceries from Huards or Foodland, a case of beer from the guys at the beer store, his Saturday afternoon Happy Hour at the Legion or help from Val, Jean, Bernice, Sheila and Marvin at the Park.
At 19 years of age John worked at “the Dam” with Ontario Hydro. He transferred around Northern Ontario until finally settling in Burlington, but over the years Mattawa was more his home than anywhere else.
Mattawa, you were kind and friendly and considerate to John, always holding a special place in his heart.
Thank you to the people of Mattawa, the doctors, nurses, STP friends for making John’s time here memorable.
