Obituary for
John William Watkins Jr.
John William Watkins Jr., born May 10th, 1949 to the late John Watkins Sr. and Ruth (Nickerson) of Overton, died peacefully at the age of 69 on Thursday, October 18th, 2018 at Yarmouth Regional Hospital surrounded by his family. J.W. could usually be found outside in his gardens or working in his yard. His favourite pastimes included beachcombing, riding his 4-wheeler, playing darts with his buddies, golfing in Yarmouth and in the past he was an avid bowler. He looked forward to breakfast with the guys and the time they spent together. He was a fisherman for 40 years and before he retired, he worked as a deckhand and cook on various tugs for 15 years.He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Eileen “Lovey” (Scoville); son George (Paula) of Brooklyn, daughters Janie (Dwayne Cameron) of Dayton and Julie (Dave Gallant) of La Crete, Alberta, grandchildren Meggan, Josh, John, Rachael, Lauren, Reese and Myelle; sister Cathy (John Turpin), and brother Gordon (Lisa). He was predeceased by his sister Anne, and his brother Peter, as well as his granddaughter May. Visitation will be held Sunday from 7-9 pm. in the Sweeny’s Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral Service Monday at 2pm. also in the Sweeny’s Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Craig Minard officiating. Burial will take place in the Cheggogin Cemetery following the service. Donations can be made to Yarmouth Ground Search and Rescue, CASARA or the Gilles Boudreau Cancer Fund or the charity of your choice. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home and Crematorium, Yarmouth.
