It is with heavy hearts that the family of John Keeley announce the passing of John on July 18, 2018 at the age of 58 years old. John was born April 13, 1960 in Kirkland Lake, Ontario and was raised in Golden BC. He will be forever loved and missed by his wife of 32 years Sherry and their children Allie (Andy) and Zachary (Alanna); his sisters Rachelle and Gale (Ken), his parents Joe (Vickie) and Angie (Vince); mother in-law Shirley and his brother in-law David (Jordyn). Also, several nieces, nephews, many other relatives, friends, students, and his dog Skeena. As a young man, John was a journeyman welder before he decided to pursue a teaching career. John completed his Bachelor of Education from the University of Calgary in 1987. He worked as a math teacher in Alberta for several years before settling in Vernon with his wife Sherry where they started their family. He has been teaching in School District 22 for 28 years teaching math, calculus and coaching numerous basketball teams. He was a passionate math teacher who loved to teach, and his students held a special place in his heart. John was an avid outdoorsman, who took great pleasure in climbing, mountaineering, ice climbing, fishing, hunting, archery, canoeing, kayaking and he finished 4 Ironman Triathlons. He was never one to sit idle. John also enjoyed building and fixing things, playing the drums and creating beautiful soapstone carvings. John touched the lives of many in his community and will be deeply missed by all those who knew him. A Celebration of Life will be held at The Alliance Church Vernon on Saturday August 25 at 10:30 am. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in John’s Memory to the Vernon Search and Rescue at www.vernonsar.ca.
