OBITUARY
It is with great sorrow that we announce thatJohn Wayne Weir, age 66, died peacefully with family at his side on Saturday,September 29th, 2018 at his home in Upper Sackville. Born October 30, 1951, he was the son of the late Vivian and Charles Weir. John is survived by his wife of 45 years,thelove of his life since junior high school, Mary Weir (Nickerson), and their loving children, Laurie (Halifax) and Scott (Sackville). He is also survived by his dear grandson, Lyam Stevens, who brought him so much joy and made him a proud ‘Papa’ these last three years of his life; his brother and friend Charles Weir Jr. and sister-in-law Janet (Upper Sackville); father-in-law, Douglas Nickerson Sr.; sisters- and brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, John was pre-deceased by his mother-in-law, Vernita Nickerson; brother-in-law, Douglas Nickerson Jr.; and nephew, Taylor Nickerson.
John worked in the trucking industry for many
years, starting with Mack Maritime, and knew truck parts better than anyone. He was always a hard and earnest worker, and loved serving his customers. John also took great pride in the restoration of his “old car,” a 1964 Comet convertible, which he and Scott worked at off and on over a 20 year period and finally got on the road in May 2015. John was a humble, quiet, and loving man who went out of his way for others with care and thoughtfulness.
A Celebration of Life will be held this Saturday, October 6th, 2018 from 2pm to 4pm at the Weir Field Recreation Facility, 2476 Sackville Drive, Upper Sackville. All are welcome. Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Atlantic Funeral Homes and online condolences may be sent by visiting www.atlanticfuneralhomes.com (Sackville Chapel). Memorial donations may be made in John’s name to the Canadian Red Cross or Children’s Wish Foundation. The family would like to thank the Oncology and Palliative teams who provided care for John over the past several months, as well as the many others who came together to make his last days as comfortable as possible.
