John Silvester
1925-2018
SILVESTER, John Cameron- 92, passed away peacefully on May 5,
2018 in Northwood Manor, Halifax. Born in Toronto in 1925, he was the
son of the late Cameron and Grace (Lumsden) Silvester and he was the
last to bear the family name. During the Second World War, as
circumstances would have it, he became an instructor in the Canadian
Infantry Corps and a volunteer in the Canadian Army Pacific Force. In
later post-War years, he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force as an
administrative officer. Also, as a minister in the Church, he served
in that capacity for seven years. He was a true gentleman and always
thought of others before himself. John is survived by his daughter
Judi MacDonald (Vince), Bedford; grandchildren Shannon (Steve
McDonald), Brendan (Marianne Dobbin), Caitlin, Meaghan (Chris
Joharchy) and great-granddaughter Evelyn. He is also survived by five
step-children and their families from his second marriage; several
nephews and nieces. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his
first wife, Dorothy (Black), his second wife, Leonora (Martingill)
(Hogg), his sister Helen Nield and his brother Lumsden. Cremation has
taken place. It is John’s wish that there be no visitation or memorial
service. Internment will take place at a later date. The family would
like to thank the wonderful nurses and staff on 7M who cared for Dad
these last few months. Arrangements under the direction of R. A.
Corkum Funeral Home, Wileville.
