MacLeod, John Richard
It is with sadness that we announce the passing of John Richard MacLeod on August 16th, 2018 in Inverary Manor, Inverness, with family by his side.
John Richard was born on March 4th, 1938 in Glencoe Station to Patrick and Elizabeth (Moran) MacLeod.
He is survived by his wife, the former Katie Maggie MacDonald; sister-in-law, Catherine MacLeod; and numerous nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews.
Besides his parents, John Richard was predeceased by brothers, Joseph and Donald Patrick; sisters, Flora (John Alex) MacDonald, Mary Jessie (Cecil) MacQuarrie and Katie Bell (Robert) MacDonald.
In his younger years, John Richard worked in construction, forestry, fishing, and as a lighthouse keeper on Margaree Island during the summer months.
The Inverary Manor was his home for the past 11 years and he and the staff grew to become like family. John Richard was a quiet man and enjoyed his daily walks downtown. He would sit in the park with his bottle of pop, bag of chips and chocolate bar and watch the world go by.
John Richard was a member of St. Margaret’s of Scotland Parish, Broad Cove.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 19th, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in Inverness Funeral Home, Inverness. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. August 20th in St. Margaret’s of Scotland Church, Broad Cove, with Father Bill Crispo officiating. Burial to follow in the parish cemetery.
Donations may be made to Central Inverness Palliative Care Society, Inverary Manor, Inverness, or to a charity of one’s choice.
Arrangements are under the care of the Inverness Funeral Home.
