John Reginald Helliwell
Helliwell, John Reginald – age 91 of Dartmouth. Passed away on March 2, 2018 at Drummond Hall, Halifax. Born in Birmingham, England, he was the son the late John and Daisy Helliwell. John served in the British Army during WWII. He studied mining engineering in Camborne Cornwall where he met his wife, Patricia Triniman. He worked as a Mining Engineer in Nigeria, Africa. Then with his wife, Patricia they moved to Canada in 1953 to raise a family of four. John retired as an Industrial Engineer from Nova Scotia Research Foundation. He also volunteered with E.M.O. and HMCS Sackville Board. He enjoyed sailing, ham radio, and bicycling. Previous to his battle with dementia John lead an active social life. John is survived by daughters, Diana Hanrahan (Gerry), Claire Steadman (Brad); sons, Phil (Rene), Robert (Michelle); sister, Barbara Watts (Gerry); brother Guy (Eve); grandchildren, Patrick, Simon, Tristan, Galen, Nichola, Danielle, Tara, Noel, Cory; great grandchildren, Jamie, Devin, Savannah, Starla and Rose. He was predeceased by his wife, Patricia. Cremation has taken place. A memorial will be held 1pm Friday, March 9th with a reception both in Atlantic Funeral Homes 771 Main Street Dartmouth. Interment in Dartmouth Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Alzheimer’s Society of Nova Scotia.
