OBITUARY
John Kenneth Hinde
Passed away on September 22, 2018
It is with much sadness that our dear husband, father and grandfather John K. Hinde born on Dec 14, 1932 in London, England passed away peacefully on Sept 22, 2018.
John is survived by his wife of 56 years Kathleen; his daughters Sandra and Linda; and his grandchildren Nathaniel and Millie.
As a child during the war, he worked in the potato fields and the Canadian soldiers were kind and shared bubblegum with him leaving a lasting impression. This experience prompted him and his family to immigrate to Canada.
Before immigrating to Canada, he spent much time in Ghana, Iran, Ethiopia, Italy, Libya and Spain as a surveyor. In Canada he worked in the road construction industry – which many of us have benefited from, driving the numerous highways he helped build.
John was an avid bridge player, becoming a life master and teacher to many. He enjoyed lawn bowling at the Stanley Park Lawn Bowling Club, where he served as both member and president.
John was very active during his retirement. He had a deep passion for literature, wrote various publications, loved to paint fine art and kept his mind sharp with crosswords and Sudoku. Any who knew him best, knew he was happiest with a good puzzle and a fine gin & tonic!
In 2015 John and Kathleen moved to Lake Bonavista Retirement Village where they made many friends and fully embraced the community and its activities.
We would like to sincerely thank all the incredible doctors, nurses and support staff who were instrumental in keeping John comfortable during the last part of his life.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Canadian Red Cross or the Calgary Humane Society.
