OBITUARY
John Francis Kirby
November 9, 1927 – September 17, 2018
John Francis Kirby of Kitchener, formerly of Kincardine, passed away peacefully
with his family by his side on Monday, September 17, 2018 at the age of 90. He
was predeceased by his lovely wife Muriel in 2014.
Greatly missed by his daughters Valerie Foltz (Tim), Barrie; Diane Kirby (Martin),
Calgary; and Sylvia Kirby (Bill), Waterloo. Also missed by grandchildren James
Gallagher (Alyssa), Calgary; Shannon Gallagher (Travis), Calgary; Robert Foltz,
Toronto & Laura Foltz, Barrie and by his brother Michael Kirby, UK. He is also
survived by his nephews David (Sue) Kirby, the Netherlands; Michael Kirby (Tim),
UK; Phillip Kirby, UK and nieces Judy Andrews (Eammon), UK; Sarah Gates
(Trevor), UK, and several great nieces & nephews.
John received his early education and industrial training in England. He and
Muriel immigrated to Peterborough, Canada in February 1957, and this enabled
John to apply for his Ontario Professional Engineers License, which was awarded
in April 1957.
John & Muriel lived in Peterborough, Welland and then Deep River, and during
this time period they had two daughters, Valerie and Diane. The family of four
returned to the UK in 1964, where a third daughter, Sylvia was born. Returning to
Canada in August 1971, John worked for Ontario Hydro at the B.N.P.D. until
retiring in 1992.
John and Muriel lived in Kincardine for 35 years where John was involved in a
Ratepayers Association, served more than six years on the Police Services Board,
was a Director of Russell Meadows non-profit housing for 10 years, and more
recently was a volunteer driver with the Canadian Cancer Society. An active
member of the Anglican Church in Kincardine, John served the Parish as Warden
from1973-8 and participated in numerous renovation projects.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, October 3rd at 11:30 am at the
Anglican Church of The Messiah, Kincardine. Internment of the ashes will also
take place in the Garden of Remembrance behind the Parish Hall following the
service.
